What is the change?
The Peruvian government has extended the current state of emergency to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Key points
- The original state of emergency, which was declared in March, has been extended to April 26, 2020.
- As a result, airports and ports will remain closed.
- The only flights allowed are ones arranged between governments to repatriate Peruvian nationals.
In addition to the state of emergency that was declared in March, there were a number of travel restrictions implemented at that time. International and domestic travel was halted, and the country’s borders were closed, as were the immigration offices. Many public-facing businesses were also closed, except for ones providing essential services.
